More Data, Harder Choices: AI, Breast Cancer, and What It Means for the Future of Care, Medical Education, and Patients

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and companies are mining the records of millions of patients to flag cancers earlier, predict which treatments will work for which people, and personalize care. The people are still in the equation: the radiologist, the pathologist, the geneticist, the counselor, the surgeon, the oncologist, and the patient, all facing the same hard reality that more information does not always produce a clearer answer, and that population-level evidence and an individual's situation can pull in different directions.

In this session, Atul Grover, MD, PhD, FACP, FCCP, examines what this means for clinicians, for learners, and for the policy, regulatory, and payment systems that decide what gets done and who pays for it. He will also raise what should worry educators most: our clinical data keeps getting better, while our data on how learners are actually progressing has barely moved. The session closes with a look at what better assessment data makes possible.
